Enquire about Michelle Daniels

Michelle is a Norfolk potter working from a small rural workshop in Oby, Norfolk. She specialises in hand thrown stoneware for use in the home & individual raku fired vessels.

Michelle’s raku work consists of a range of both ‘naked’ and glazed raku vessels. Her current work is inspired by photographic images of planet earth as seen from the International Space Station and also recent images of Jupiter from NASA’s Juno cam, both accessed via Social Media. Each piece is wheel thrown then decorated with terra sigillata slips, traditionally used in Roman pottery. Michelle has adapted old English slipware techniques to create her own methods of decoration to illustrate surfaces in a 2-dimensional way as would be seen from outer space. Some pieces are then burnished, some glazed. Raku fired wares are usually still porous after firing, but her smaller vessels have been sealed to make them water-tight for flowers which complements an innate aspect of her work to produce ‘useable’ pots.
