Stoneware - BUBBLE/ DOUBLE, DOUBLE ,TOIL AND TROUBLE
Inspired by the well-known witches’ speech in Shakespeare’s “Macbeth”.
The piece shows the toad, newt, lizard and frog – all of which are referred to in the passage.
The word “Bubble” has been in use since 1350 (with various odd spellings) but which has only been in common use since Shakespeare included it in his work.
The piece also shows a newt laying its egg in a bubble formed in a curled leaf under-water.
